Here’s a nice little video preview and garmin nuvi 650 review that showcases some of the navigational help the gps system offers. Note the quality and clarity of the voice and visual directions and the clarity of the screen (in nighttime driving conditions) with the larger and bright widescreen (6XX series garmin GPS units)
The first thing you notice is the color of the screen. As soon as it gets dark out the Nuvi 650 will switch into night mode so the screen is easier to read in the dark. The background turns black and everything seems a little brighter like the directions and information in the bottom corners.
The Nuvi650 is extremely accurate with its direction giving. For a turn more than 500 feet away it will give the distance in miles and it’s accurate to a tenth of a mile. Under 500 feet it will start giving the distance in feet. Once you’re within 200 feet it will be accurate up to 50 feet and once you’re under 50 feet it will be accurate up to the foot so you’ll know exactly when to turn. Once you are 100 feet away it will give a voice prompt telling you the direction to turn and the street to turn on to make sure you don’t miss it. After making a turn it will let you know how far away the next turn is and what the street name is and direction it will be.
Notice at the start of the video how he has a list containing 2 places and how far they are and the direction they’re in. This is his list of favorites. You can save places you go regularly so you don’t have to always find them on the list or type them in. You just pick one off the list and it’ll bring up more detail about the location and then hit “Go!” to get there.
